In memoriam – Peter de Koninck

Dear members,

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Peter de Koninck, Board Member of IIA Belgium and Chief Auditor at SWIFT.

Peter passed away on 11 December 2025 following a very aggressive brain tumour. His death comes as a profound shock to all who knew him.

Peter had only recently joined the Board of IIA Belgium. In that short time, he already demonstrated a strong commitment to the Institute and to the internal audit profession. He was full of energy, ideas, and enthusiasm to make the most of his board mandate and to contribute to the future of IIA Belgium. Tragically, that journey was cut short far too soon.

Professionally, Peter was widely respected for his integrity, sharp intellect, and thoughtful judgment. Personally, he will be remembered as a warm, principled, engaging and extremely funnt individual who left a lasting impression on colleagues and peers alike.
