Overview
Looking for a fresh perspective on AI & audit? In this keynote, AI GRC expert Jens Meijen (UMANIQ) dissects the hype, separating fact from fiction with a critical eye.
AI is everywhere, and companies are rushing to adopt it. But how much of the hype is real? Many organizations struggle to measure the real-world gains provided by AI. This plays into the hands of AI vendors and even internal AI fanatics: they can freely misrepresent the actual advantages AI offers. High-profile figures have tied their reputations to major AI bets, yet for all the excitement, generative AI models like OpenAI’s GPT-4.5 are still not delivering the major breakthroughs we expected. Beyond generative AI, the ROI on specialized AI can also be difficult to quantify.
Amidst the hype, real risks loom. AI systems bring challenges like bias, privacy concerns, security threats, and a troubling lack of transparency. Their high autonomy can lead to loss of control, and their complexity makes them difficult to manage. This is where internal audit plays a critical role. Audits can cut through the noise to provide a neutral perspective, beyond the hype. With the AI Act pushing companies to ensure compliance through internal controls, internal audit is uniquely positioned to verify and test AI systems, ensuring they not only meet legal requirements but also adhere to best practices for responsible AI development.
This keynote covers the tangible risks and challenges that come with AI, but also how internal audit can help turn AI compliance into a launchpad for innovation.
